Omani weddings carry underlying financial burden

Majority of Omani Men only earn of 700 rials per month. It’s unattainable for them to raise their wedding. In the end they get themselves into a money owing dilemma within the early years of a marriage.


Main reasons of divorce there is due to underlying financial issues. Though dowry may not be the direct source of divorce, it acts as a means for triggering stress that may lead to disagreement.

Precipitous costs in Oman weddings, forces many young men to settle unmarried, cropped up vicious remonstrations that astounded Oman this year as political disorder widen across the Arab world.

Omani weddings can cost 30,000 rials while dowries reach up to 15,000 rials. In the country’s heart, that number can be as towering as 30,000 rials. The bride’s family situates the grant cost and the bride has little to state in the issue.

High dowries are most insisted in the center cities like buraimi and Ibri due to present family ideas and community pressure.
